Harrison Central High School
http://www.edutopia.org/node/2947
This video was about making the classroom more interactive. Data and information was shared by many of the classrooms. They used technology to connect school subject to real world situations. I like this idea because there is nothing more frustrating than having to learn something that you will never use or something that has no relevance to your life.
Mary Scroggs Elementary School
http://www.edutopia.org/node/2961
This video stated that grade levels as low ad kindergarten were using websites and laptops to complete tasks successfully. Many classes use the kidspiration and inspiration software to organize data. I liked the fact that computers were donated to lower income families. I am also amazed that they start pushing technology at such a young age, but you have to start somewhere and their futures are going to be surrounded by technology.
A Product of Learning
http://www.edutopia.org/node/2958
I am amazed that this school got as much accomplished as it did due to the 28 languages that were spoken. I like the idea of getting everyone in a school involved in a project. I think that more schools should be like this; less division between each school room and more interaction.
Leading with Laptops
http://www.edutopia.org/node/2960
I like the question “How do you make laptops more than just a $2000 pencil?” I was “WOWED” by the statement that teachers saw that they had to talk less and the students explored and discovered more with integration of technology.
No Gamer Left Behind
http://www.edutopia.org/no-gamer-left-behind
I feel that schools should invest in more educational games. I like the idea that teacher could expose their students to ares that they couldn’t without these games, example: determining and interacting with bacteria. I also like the idea that games can connect the students to the world more so than text or tests.
Key Largo School
http://www.edutopia.org/key-largo-school
I really think that more schools should be ran like the Key Largo school. The classroom is tailored to individual needs. Also I like that teachers are encouraged to take risks. I think that many teachers play it safe and stick to what they feel comfortable with rather than explore and experiment.
The Geo Literacy Project
http://www.edutopia.org/geo-literacy-project
I really like the idea of students, especially younger students, interacting with other grade levels as well as their communities. This video also should me that good things can happen if you allow your students to have a majority of the control over what they learn and how they do it.
